My introduction to this album was via a few clips on YouTube (to be honest, I didn't know about it prior to that), so I had some idea of what to expect - but in fairness I have to say it beat all expectations hands down. I like a lot of Bryan's work, so most of the songs are familiar to me, but what impresses me most about the album is the wealth of experience you can hear in how he performs. This album is a classic example of what Malcolm Gladwell talks about - the "10,000-hour rule" - claiming that the key to success in any field is, to a large extent, a matter of practicing a specific task for a total of around 10,000 hours.I'm sure Bryan has way more than 10,000 hours under his belt and you can hear that clearly on this album. He knows exactly when to involve the crowd, when to lighten the atmosphere a bit with a joke or a funny story, when to rock it (yes, with an acoustic) and when to tone it down. It's all there.Speaking of acoustic guitar - some of the tones he gets are superb and they offer an interesting backdrop to the various songs. The piano player does exactly what he's supposed to do - add something to the song without getting in the way. He's there and he's not there, so to speak. The harmonica adds an extra touch to the overall sound and so you never get bored because there is enough happening at all times....and the voice. In my opinion, Bryan is one of the few artists who seems to be able to add something to the vocal in a live situation, rather than give you the feeling that something is missing (like a lot of other live recordings). That's no mean feat as his records are well produced and his voice on the original cuts is very, very strong. This guy just doesn't sing flat or off-key ever (I checked out several other live clips on YouTube). Amazing!!Back to the album or the tracks. There are some new songs on it and that's a good thing. No matter how well a song is sung, or how many times it's been re-arranged, you can get tired of seeing it show up over and over again on different albums. There is a real nice mix on this album. To sum up...if you're someone who likes a good live album, enjoys acoustic music, appreciates musicians who can actually play their instruments well, then I can safely say - you'll love this album.
