A “Dry Compass Equator” refers to both a specific kind of compass and a particular compass behavior. A dry compass features a pivoting needle and dry card, unlike liquid-filled compasses. The equator aspect refers to a geographical zone where compass needles remain level—pointing horizontally without tilting toward the magnetic poles, due to the Earth's magnetic field being parallel to the surface at the equator.
