The Spiny Melongena Shell (Pugilina morio), also known as the Spiny Rock Shell, is a species of predatory sea snail in the family Melongenidae. It is distinguished by its robust, thick shell adorned with prominent spines or nodules along the whorls. The shell's coloration ranges from brown to dark purple, often with lighter, irregular streaks. This species is found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Western Atlantic, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. The Spiny Melongena typically inhabits sandy or muddy substrates, often in shallow waters. It is a carnivorous snail, feeding on bivalves and other smaller mollusks.
