"BARE BONES" This CD album you hold before you is a tribute to Sun Studios and all the magnificent talent that crossed it's threshold. "Fools Fall In Love" is a nod to Elvis Presley who without a doubt is Sun's most famous son. Jerry Lee Lewis is the self-proclaimed "Last Man Standing", which I consider the title song of the album. It would not be right to do such a tribute without Carl Perkins, "Sure To Fall", which incidentally was his first recording for Sun. I did my best to capture the mood of Johnny Cash's early works on the song, "You Should Have Stayed". Going all the way back to Sun's earliest days when it was primarily a blues label, I wrote a song in the tradition of Howlin Wolf, "No More No More". But this album is not about the class of 55. It is about the contemporary recording artists who travel long and far to catch some of the magic that the birthplace of rock and roll exudes. U2, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, the late Levon Helm and so many more have walked through the portals of 706 Union Avenue. Once you are there, whether it be physically or in spirit, take a walk 2 blocks south... where you will see the, "New Heartbreak Hotel" which is a modern day sequel to Elvis's national breakout song, the original "Heartbreak Hotel". Incidentally, that song was written by Washington, DC's own Jack Brooks who was a long time member of the famous British Walkers. I couldn't have picked a better musical partner than Donna Frost who was with me all the way. By the way, Donna is legendary down and around Nashville, Tennessee. She was the backup singer for Skeeter Davis, both live on the road and at the Opry. Incidentally, she also happens to be the niece of Felton Jarvis, who was a longtime producer for Elvis Presley. He produced Elvis until the time of his death. I may add beyond her singing talent, she also writes a damn good song. I've has been playing rockabilly, blues, country and all American roots for 50 years now, starting at the young age of 17. I've worked as a sideman with Gene Vincent, Amos Milburn, and Big Joe Turner and toured with Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Jack Scott, Sonny Fisher, and Gene Summers, just to mention a few. An honor was to introduce Charlie Feathers to Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD and point north for the first time in Charlie's career. I am lucky enough to be the recipient of both WAMA and INDIE awards and belong to the International Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Black Cat Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Europe, the Northern Virginia Blues Society Hall of Fame and the Southern Legends Hall of Fame. I have toured the America's, the UK and Europe (East and West). This album is my 22nd commercial offering. To sum it all up, I think that this album is probably as diversified as the music's that came from Sun Records in it's heyday and it was a hell of a lot of fun in the making. Billy & Donna June 2014 Reviews This is a GREAT CD! If any of you reading this don't yet have it, get it now. You'll be so glad you did! Jonathan Henschel Hancock seems to be reaching back to his much earlier roots and the sincerity of his creations strike a chord more profound and personal as he grows older.
