Fossilized coral is actually the organic torso of the creature. They agatized, so for this reason, this fossil coral is also known as 'Agatized fossil coral' or sometimes just 'agatized coral’. The agate supersedes the fossils of the corals at the time of their formation. These fossil coral heads harden because of the silica-rich deposits of the water. This intact process of creation will take around twenty million years with the right geological stipulations. These coral stones are actually the skeletons of the dead marine animals. As a result of the fossilization of the coral, an intricate floral pattern appears on the surface of the stone.
These interesting specimens are from the Devonian Period, 419 -358 million years ago. Because they are polished, you’re really about to see the interesting inner coral structure and individual polyps on the surface. These are sometimes mistaken for "petoskey stones" found in Michigan though these are slightly different genus of coral. These are the genus Actinocyathus.
