I first heard the song "Mess of Crows" on a lovely Spring evening while listening to the BBC on a portable Internet radio. Despite the radio reception, the piece caught my ear as no other has in recent years. This album is a collection of traditional folk songs devoted to ghost stories and sounds like something one could hear on the "Echoes" or "Hearts of Space" radio programs here in the U.S.A. The music is eerie, mischievous, disquieting, enchanting, haunting, ethereal...and absolutely lovely. The featured artist is composer Martin Green from Scotland who was in the award-winning group Lau in the U.K. Also featured are a collection of handpicked folk artists including Becky Unthank, nykelharpist Niklas Roswall and singer Inge Thomson. If you are searching for music that will transport you to a place of dark beauty, give this some attention. I am thrilled to have discovered this work.
