Calling someone a "rat" is generally seen as a bad thing but is it really? Rats are complex, loving and intelligent creatures that have a case of bad reputation. Without companionship rats tend to become lonely and depressed. They are even known to take care of injured and sick rats in their group. Rats also have an excellent memory and once they learn a navigation route, they won't forget it. Most people we know can ever remember what they had for lunch. As for the myth that rats are filthy, they are actually extremely clean animals, spending several hours every day grooming themselves and their group members. They are less likely than cats or dogs to catch and transmit parasites and viruses (minus that whole black death fiasco but we now know it was the fault of the fleas. Not the rats).
