I picked this up after reading one of the author's short stories in Nightmare Magazine, and I wasn't disappointed. It's a great quick read with a very skillful sense of balance: it manages to combine a quickly-paced plot with genuine character moments and genuine atmosphere, and deftly transitions from grounded depictions of setting and scientific research to eldritch horror and the uncanny. It ultimately left me wanting to spend more time with these characters and this story, which is the best praise I can think of for a book. I'm glad I got the paperback, because I'll be sharing this with others.
