What can we say about cats that hasn’t already been said a hundred times? Cats were worshiped by the Egyptians, kept as pets to control pests on farms, and have sparked the age-old debate of "are you a cat person or a dog person?" It seems most people lean toward cats, with 88 million pet cats in the U.S. compared to 74 million dogs.

Sadly, not everyone has always loved cats. During the Middle Ages, cats were associated with witchcraft. On St. John’s Day, people across Europe would stuff them into sacks and toss them into bonfires. They even celebrated by tossing cats from church towers on holy days. Oddly enough, Europe was hit hard by the Black Plague, which was carried by rats. Maybe they should’ve been kinder to cats...
